Gracie is 96 years old and lives in Wayne.
Historically speaking, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons in our country. Every President since JFK has issued a formal proclamation during or before the month of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities.
As a part of this year's activities and events to honor older Americans, the U.S. Administration on Aging (AOA) invited individuals to share their "recipe for strength" in a national contest promoting this year's theme, "Age Strong, Live Long!" Entries were accepted as a video, photograph, poem or essay. Whether the contestants addressed an exercise routine, a healthy diet, a tradition with friends or remembering to look on the bright side of life, the AOA wanted to know what these people have done to age strong and live long!
This year, our very own Gracie DiAddezio submitted a video and was awarded first prize in the nation! Gracie, an active member at the Wayne Senior Center, is 96 years old and always wears a smile on her face. She listens to others, supports her peers in every way and believes in positive thinking. Gracie exercises everyday, walks, gardens, teaches decoupage classes, and most importantly is a loving friend to all. She always sees the best in everything and everyone.
The Wayne Senior Center is so proud of Gracie and values and supports everyone in all efforts to remain active, healthy and independent.
