We Offer the Following Computer Classes:

Introduction to Computers This class is for the computer novice and assumes the student has NO computer experience. It is divided into three parts.

Part I deals with the parts of the computer - what they are called and what they do. It explains the difference between hardware and software. It covers the basics of the operating system (Windows 98) and the use of the mouse and the keyboard.

Part II is an introduction to word processing. Using the program, we write a brief biography illustrating the techniques of word wrapping, text alignment, spelling and grammar checker, formatting paragraphs, and importing graphics into the document.

Part III is a brief introduction to the Internet. The student is taught terminology, receives an email account, learns to send and receive email and is shown the basics of "surfing the net".

Working With Windows Step II: This class covers using Windows Explorer, copying, moving and deleting files, folders and file management, font management, computer maintenance, viruses, loading and unloading software, clicking on the right side of the mouse and setting preferences.

Beyond the Basics Step III: This class is a continuation of word processing and an introduction to data management. The class uses a series of projects to cover the following skills: editing techniques such as cutting and pasting, changing fonts, inserting, keyboard shortcuts, paragraph formatting, columns, borders, use of special papers, font usage, working with graphics, WordArt and the drawing tools, creating a logo, tabs, envelopes, mailing labels, mail merge and address books.

Digital Photo This class deals with manipulating photographs. It covers the use of a digital camera, the color printer and the scanning of traditional photos. The class uses a series of projects to cover the following: color and brightness correction, cropping, removing dust and wrinkles from old photos, special effects, stamping, making composite pictures, touching up photos, making cut-outs, and using templates.

Family Websites Dedicate a website to your family using the content management system found at www.myfamily.com. Create your own website and learn to add material such as photographs, stories, recipes and a family tree. Invite your family and friends to join your new site.

Picasa: Organize your Digital Photos Picasa is a free digital image management program offered by Google. Learn to download and install the program, import, view, organize and edit your images. Email your photos easily to family and friends.

Web Albums: Share your Photos Learn to generate web albums using the features available at www.shutterfly.com. Transfer your photos to the website and share them easily with family and friends. View, organize, edit and create a greeting card and calendar using your images.

Maintain your Computer: Keep it Running Efficiently and Safely Learn proper maintenance techniques to prevent slow response time and improve the overall performance of your computer. Protect against viruses, malware, trojans and worms. Build better passwords, guard against "phishing" and securely back up files.
One 2-1/2 hour session
This course is for the more experienced user.

Transition to Windows Vista The successor to Windows XP is Vista, the newest operating system from Microsoft. Familiarize yourself with the user interface, learn to customize your desktop and put back commonly accessed options now missing or moved. Locate and manage your files. Discover the new, improved search function.
One 2-1/2 hour session

Prerequisite: working knowledge of Windows XP

Transition to Word 2007 Learn how Microsoft Word 2007 differs from Word 2000-2003. Some functions are renamed and drop down menus are replaced with ribbons. Discover several new and improved features, including document previews. Save files for users with earlier versions.
One 2-1/2 hour session
Prerequisite: working knowledge of Word 97-2003
